Yes it is true, candidates taking the UK driving test find reacting to traffic lights to be one of the most common reasons for failing. The problems are often due to candidate not anticipating a traffic light and then either jumping a red light or stopping too quickly, causing dangers for vehicles behind. But it can also be a problem where candidates fail to proceed at a green light on their driving test.

But the fix is relatively simple, if you can ALWAYS approach a traffic light with caution and expect it to change you should have no problems, as most of the problems tend to happen as the candidate gets 'surprised' by the light changing and make a misjudgement in the panic.
