I'm Rob Rosenthal with AskTheLawyers.com and this is an AskTheLawyers.com legal brief. Tire blowouts can be traumatic and catastrophic. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says tire related crashes caused more than 700 deaths in 2017. Causes of these blowouts can vary: the age of the tire, road conditions, and how much air they had are all factors to consider. But another possible cause is manufacturer negligence.

Stewart Eisenberg is an injury attorney based in Philadelphia. He says that the manufacturer could be liable if a detreading occurs. A detreading is when the tread separates from the tire completely. Attorney Eisenberg says that if a detreading occurs, you should get a lawyer involved. He says:

"Generally when the tread comes off there's something wrong with the tire. Either it was made wrong, the materials were not strong enough or the tire was too old and should have been taken out of service." Eisenberg recommends replacing your tires every six to seven years. And he also says if you're only getting two new tires, make sure you add them to the rear of the car to prevent fish tailing.
