Did you know that monkeys are social animals and need to be part of a troop? That’s what a group of monkeys is called! A few months ago, we rescued a young langur who had been accidentally electrocuted (watch his story here - He has recovered completely at our Wildlife Transit Unit and is now being integrated with a much younger langur, who was orphaned as a newborn and had been hand-raised from 2 days of age! Their best chance of survival out in their natural habitat will be if the young langurs become a troop. To make this possible, our team has been teaching them how to search for forest fruits, berries, leaves and grains. A dedicated animal care attendant is also working with the young langurs daily to teach them grooming and feeding behaviour (usually taught by a mother langur) to increase their chances of successful release into the wild. Best of all is that the two langurs are now social and friendly! Watch to see them interact and be ready for a smile :)
