Vitamin B12 FORM – Cyanocobalamin safe? Methylcobalamin adequate? (What I recommend)

Vitamin B12 FORM – Cyanocobalamin safe? Methylcobalamin adequate? (What I recommend) In addition to the huge variation in dose of B12 supplements, there are at least 4 different forms of the vitamin to choose from. The most common of these are cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin.

But which of these is better? And why do some people argue that you should never take cyanocobalamin and that it is tantamount to poison?

Indeed, why is there poison – cyanide – in cyanocobalamin at all? Should we be concerned that this is an unnatural form of the vitamin?

Today we'll be exploring the different forms of B12 with a special focus on cyano- and methylcobalamin given their ubiquity, including manufacture, safety and conversion issues – and how I arrived at my recommendation for the form you should take.

Please note that the discussion in this video applies to healthy people with no known issues with B12 utilisation, and you should persist with the regimen prescribed by your health care provider.
