Health Information - Influenza Pandemic

Health Information - Influenza Pandemic An influenza pandemic occurs when a new influenza or flu virus emerges for which there is little or no immunity in the human population. The virus begins to cause serious illness and then spreads easily from person-to-person worldwide. The local health department, state, and federal partners are taking steps to prepare for and respond to an influenza pandemic if a pandemic occurs. An informed and prepared community can help decrease the risk during a pandemic. Individuals, businesses, and communities are encouraged to seek information about the signs and symptoms of specific disease outbreaks. Everyone is encouraged to adopt practices that encourage sick employees or students to stay home and to anticipate how to function with a significant portion of the workforce or school population absent due to illness.
Reduce your risk of illness by practicing good health habits, including eating a balanced diet, exercising daily, and getting sufficient rest. In addition, take common-sense steps to stop the spread of germs including frequent hand-washing, covering coughs and sneezes and staying away from others as much as possible when you are sick.
