The Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are used for this drawing are soft, waxy pencils that allow you to achieve a beautiful sheen for Muffin’s coat. Even though Muffin is primarily black with a little tan, many different colors and layers are used to achieve her likeness. Various shades of blues are used along with purples, browns, silver, black, and greens. Green is very good for shading.
The mood is set up using a turquoise blouse to help with the folds of the blanket in front of the box Muffin is shown in. A sparkly turquoise bowl and turquoise glass candle holder complete the setup, creating the mood for this challenge.
Muffin’s collar, shown in turquoise in the reference photo, was changed to red making it stand out in the sea of turquoise surrounding her. The collar is actually a cat collar, since ordinary dog collars are way too big for her tiny neck. When she was first brought home even the smallest cat collar was almost too large.
The paper used for this drawing is Strathmore Bristol smooth, 300 series, 100 pound weight.
The sketching pencil is a 2H Eagle Turquoise Drawing Pencil.
The erasers are a Prismacolor Scholar Eraser and Pencil Toppers.
The camera used is an Apple iPad Pro.
The background music is “Prizefighter” by Norma Rockwell from the YouTube audio library.
The reference photo for the china bowl painting came from three photos obtained from pixabay.com. and combined using Photoshop to create the reference image.
