Peggy Lee - The Folks Who Live On The Hill - 1957 [HQ Remaster in DES STEREO]

Peggy Lee - The Folks Who Live On The Hill - 1957 [HQ Remaster in DES STEREO] “The Folks Who Live On The Hill” was recorded April 2, 1957. It was featured on Peggy’s LP: “The Man I Love”, one of Capitol Record’s very last MONO albums, as they were rapidly gearing up for stereo. The orchestration was arranged by Nelson Riddle and conducted by Frank Sinatra.

For this album, Frank directed Peggy to sing like Billie Holiday, "to reinforce the near-victimhood of the woman depicted in the songs." In this track, Frank coached Peggy to sing way back and rubato. The phrasing Peggy gave is unbelievable! With Nelson Riddle's lush strings, it was superb pairing of singer, conductor, and arranger.

Written by George & Ira Gershwin
