My reason for working with silicone is that the artist/maker in me likes to put together things from scratch. I like the challenge of working through the process and creating my own unique creations. The achieve this uniqueness I will also show you on this video how I sculpted my own voodoo doll sculpture to use for the mold making. I used a polymer clay called Sculpey to do this. What a great product! It's wonderful because you have all the time in the world to create to your heart's content. Baking your finished product at a low temperature completely cures this clay, then it's ready to be set in a form to hold the liquid silicone. After a 10 hour cure time, the mold is ready to be used.
You can find Sculpey at an arts and craft store. While you're there you might want to pick up some foam board, plasticine clay and a few other tools and materials that I mention in the video.
Here's the link for where I purchased my silicone base and the catalyst you need to mix it with:
They have several products. The product I used is their 2125 MM Green.
My glycerin Voodoo Dolls are complete and ready for their new home if you would like to order one at vibrant soap.com I also have the Day of the Dead Soap Skulls too. Just a note: The skulls won't fit in the small, flat rate, priority boxes.
Also, check out Ace of Clay for more details on how to work with Sculpey:
