Remainers do not want a Brexit General Election!

Remainers do not want a Brexit General Election! Be in no doubt that those Remain MPs sat in the House of Commons are scared witless that a General Election will happen in the next few weeks.

Most of the Remain MPs - especially in the Tory ranks - know they will be either facing de-selection or they will fail to get re-elected should there be another general election within the next few weeks.

They also know that Boris Johnson could well get the majority he needs to march on with his Brexit plans should he end up taking his case to the country.

So the Remainer MPs want to get the job of reversing Brexit done, before that fateful day, as well as staving off the inevitable failure at the ballot box.

And you can see that in all their talk about getting an Article 50 extension in place before considering the subject of a General Election.

But, if Boris Johnson put a motion before MPs asking them to vote for a General Election for the 14th of October, then it proves he is willing to put his case to the people before Brexit Day.

And if the Remainers and opposition refuse, then it proves they are unwilling to face the people, after all these months of claiming they want to do just that.

No, the truth as far as I can see is they want to keep the entire Brexit debate within the hallowed halls of Westminster and well away from the grubby mitts of the proles until the reversal is done and dusted.

Unless they can get a clear run-up of about a year towards a second referendum when they can ramp up the Project Fear rhetoric again.

The Remain campaigners all say that the country has changed its mind and that Brexit is over, while they call for a referendum to be called at some future distant date.

But Boris could well give the opportunity for the Remain politicians to take him on in a General Election on the 14th of October.

And if the Remainers win, then they can ask the EU to extend the next day and the EU has already said it would look favourable on any request.

So, the Remainers do not need to go through this convoluted procedure to get an Act of Parliament that could well fail anyway.

Why take the gamble - why don't they put their money where their mouths are and take on Boris head-on.

But I doubt they will.

The threat of Boris getting back into Number Ten with a majority and able to throw their Remain plans under a bus would fill them with dread.

Especially with the Telegraph reporting that Tory donors are ready to pour millions into any snap General Election.

I suspect the Remainers will all want to keep the parliamentary balance exactly where it is for as long as possible, in order to maximise the chances of an Article 50 revocation within say 12 months.

Because that EU (Withdrawal) (No6) bill, that is destined to get the Bercow blessing to proceed through parliament to become an Act by Monday at the latest, is as far as I can tell designed to facilitate just that.

It even has an inbuilt monthly reporting system that goes on for as long as the Article 50 process is running.

Once that bill has started its passage, I doubt there will be a motion of no confidence in Boris, while any motion for a general election will receive fewer than the two thirds vote it requires and, if they gain Royal Assent for that traitor's bill, then prorogation will not come soon enough for them.

In fact they'll raise merry hell if Boris Johnson and Dominic Cummings come up with a way to stop them and parliament is recalled.

Now one of the threats doing the rounds is the nuclear option of throwing Philip Hammond out of the Tory Party.

I have a better idea, ditch Bercow as well!

Anyway, what do you think? - Please share and comment - and thank you for watching.
