At least 34 people are feared dead after a 75ft diving boat burst into flames off the coast of California. The fire reportedly broke out just before 5am (11am GMT) this morning near Santa Cruz Island, close to Los Angeles, while passengers were asleep. According to reports, five crew members managed to escape the vessel while one is being treated for a broken leg. The rest remain "unaccounted for", Santa Barbara County Fire Department PIO Mike Eliason said. We're still holding hope that someone may have swam to shore. "The group of crew members has been rescued (one with minor injuries) and efforts continue to evacuate the remaining passengers." CBS News say the boat had been carrying divers when the fire broke out. The Conception reportedly left Santa Barbara on Saturday and visited several diving spots around Santa Cruz Island.
