Patented by Wessel Brodhead in 1868 but more commonly identified with Star Tool, the exclusive manufacturer. Both are rosewood, one is the mortise gauge version with adjustable internal screw, the other the plain marking gauge. Both have two brass wear strips in head and Star Tool mark, a little faint on the mortise gauge. Good+ 80 - 150

48. LOT OF TWO MARKING GAUGES. Stanley No. 60. Stanley's oldest cast iron gauge, based on Justus Traut's 1874 patent and manufactured from 1874-1897. One early version with the straight stem, japanning mostly gone, and one with the later hump, japanning 50%. Good & better 100 - 150

434. ADJUSTABLE HEAD MARKING GAUGE. Bates Patent. Patented in 1896, featuring an elaborate cast bronze adjustable head designed to be used on beveled and curved edges. One of the rarest and most gizmoish of the marking gauges, the head is in fine condition with all its parts and clearly marked with the patent date. Good+ 100 - 200
