Richard Madeley slams Corbyn's poll results and suggests he's ‘frightened’ of an election Jeremy Corbyn joined Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan on This Morning earlier today. Madeley swapped the Good Morning Britain studio for this one-off ITV special as he and his wife grilled the Labour leader on his stance on Brexit and whether he will be voting for an election during the important vote in parliament on Monday. Finnigan kicked off the discussion and said: The EU still hasn’t made up its mind whether it’s going to grant an extension for us to come out.”  “What’s your position on an election, is there going to be one?” she asked. Corbyn began: “I hope the EU grants an extension, we will know later today or maybe they’re going to delay it over the weekend. “My position is we’ve got to get no deal taking off the table first because it would be catastrophic for jobs and businesses in Britain.” READ MORE GBP/EUR flat as Boris Johnson offers Jeremy Corbyn election ultimatum  “It would be very damaging for Northern Ireland,” he added. However Madeley continued to push the Labour leader on his position for an election. He remarked: “Let me give you a ‘what/if’ right now the EU ambassadors are meeting, you never know the white smoke might come out during this interview.  “If it did if I heard in my ear piece they made a decision and they’ve said yes they’re going to extend it until January and we were doing this interview live would you then say ‘Right, I will vote for an election on Monday’.”  “Providing the prime minister comes to parliament on Monday and makes it clear he is going to make sure there is no crash out,” Corbyn answered. “Because his deal includes the possibility of a no deal exit.” But Madeley wasn’t satisfied with his answer and continued to grill the Labour leader. “He’s not going to do that, is he?” he hit back. “Well he has to do that because that’s how parliament works, we’ve got to hold him to account,” Corbyn said. Madeley then brought to Corbyn’s attention his recent poll ratings. “But the thing he probably won’t do that,” Madeley said. “And what people watching this will think is ‘Jeremy Corbyn is hiding behind this because he’s frightened of an election'. “‘He’s frightened for two reasons, one because his personal poll ratings’, your personal poll ratings are awful, they’ve been as bad.     Trending READ MORE Richard and Judy: Why are Richard and Judy back on This Morning today?  “Your party’s poll ratings are dreadful too and if there were an election based on the polls at the moment you’d lose and the Tories would win.” “Are you frightened of an election?” Madeley asked. However Corbyn denied this was the case and explained he would welcome an election. Corbyn said: “Not at all, I’m very happy to go out and campaign I do it all the time, I love campaigning.” This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV
