Amazing Teenage Singers from 1930s. Film Clips~She's One Sweet Showgirl|Ben Pollack The movies of the 1930s saw the rise of talented teen performers. From Judy Garland and Deanna Durbin in Every Sunday (1936) to Gloria Jean in The Under Pup (1939) and the astounding coloratura Susanna Foster who was actually only 14 during the filming of The Great Victor Herbert with Mary Martin and Allan Jones in 1939, this vid showcases a bit of that talent.
The intro and ending music is "She's One Sweet Showgirl" played by The Park Central Orchestra under the direction of Ben Pollack recorded by The Victor Talking Machine Company in October 1928 in New York. Belle Mann v.; Victor issue 21473 MX 47743. Flip side~Buy Buy for Baby or Baby Will Bye Bye You, Belle Mann v.
She's One Sweet Showgirl and Buy Buy for Baby are from the 1928 movie "Show Girl" starring Alice White who played Dixie Dugan, Gwen Lee and Don Reed. Alice White performed both songs in the movie but her vocals were dubbed by Belle Mann who also performed the vocals on this Victor recording 21473. The vocals by Belle at the beginning of this vid and the record flip side are from the movie soundtrack and was the audio used to dub Alice White's singing performances. Show Girl was released September 1928 by First National Pictures and copies of the film were lost for over 80 years until a copy was found in 2015 in Milan, Italy at the Milan Picture Archives. Grazie!
Thanks to Gloria Jean for her film clips which she uploaded to You Tube before her passing in 2018.
The rest of the soundtrack "Buy Buy for Baby" is also uploaded to this channel.
