Memory Techniques for Data Science, Programming, Statistics and Mathematics with Memory Expert Anthony Metivier from Magnetic Memory Method. Anthony was recently featured on the Super Data Science Podcast with Kirill Eremenko.
What if you could easily remember complex mathematical formulas? How would that help you to pass certification exams or free up your mental capacity to learn new facts?
In this conversation with my friend Dr Anthony Metivier we get to talk about how memory or learning techniques can be used to learn technical skills like data science, programming, statistics, and mathematics.
Anthony has taught several students to memorize long list of formulas and different languages in short periods of time. I'm interested to see how this could be adapted to data science.
I give Anthony a formula for the correlation coefficient of a population to see how he would start to memorize this.
The additional challenge to this is that there are a number of greek symbols that represent statistics concepts like the mean and standard deviation.
I think this formula could be used as a mindmap for branching into lots of different statistical concepts such as population vs sample, variance, standard error, degrees of freedom, etc.

If I'd known that Anthony had put this memory video together before our interview I probably wouldn't have referred to Mu and Sigma as the funny shaped U and O.
Math formulas use a lot of greek symbols so having a system like this could be a great starting point for branching into other areas such as the specific meaning of greek symbols within different context like statistics.
