Palatal obturators prosthetics are used to close defects of the hard/soft palate that may affect speech production or cause nasal regurgitation during feeding. In simpler terms, a palatal obturator covers any fistulas in the roof of the mouth that lead to the nasal cavity, providing the wearer with a plastic/acrylic, the removable roof of the mouth, which aids in speech, eating, and proper airflow. We performed the prosthesis with an aim to assess the effectiveness of the maxillary obturator such as a speech rehabilitation aid, to examine the influence of dentition on speech intelligibility and to restore patients’ regular daily activity.
Check out the video on how we performed a palatal obturator on him and how after this treatment, the patient exhibited a remarkable improvement in his speech. which brought about a positive change in his lifestyle.
