Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg said the climate crisis seems to be ignored by people in power as she visited the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid on Friday. Afterwards, she and other activists spoke to journalists at the cultural centre La Casa Encendida.

"I sincerely hope that the COP25 will lead to something concrete. And that it will lead to also an increase in awareness among people in general and that the world leaders, the people in power grasp the urgency of the climate crisis because right now it does not seem like they are," said Thunberg.

She praised the actions of young protesters taking to the streets across the world to participate in climate strike. At the same time she stressed that there has been practically no response from politicians.

''Frankly, the CO2 emissions are not reducing, they are in fact increasing. 2019 they were increased 0.6 percent so of course there is no victory because the only thing that we want to see is real action and real action has not been happening. So, of course we have achieved a lot but if you look at it from a certain point of view we have achieved nothing," Thunberg said.

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) is being held in Madrid on December 2-13. World leaders have been holding talks with the aim of finding a solution to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.
