In Submarine chop, Use of ultrasonic energy is minimal and all the ultrasonic energy is delivered within the lens mass, not in the aqueous. This keeps the cornea free from the insult of ultrasound. This is my firm belief. Moreover, I emulsify the lens fragments at the iris place remaining at the centre. This is the reason that though I use only 2% HPMC as the viscoelastic substance, I get clear cornea in all cases.
