A college semester in Taiwan lasts 18 weeks, which is longer than semesters in most other countries. Three Taiwanese schools say they want to shorten their semesters from 18 to 15 weeks. These three schools are National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. They hope to get government approval and launch the new schedule as early as September 2020. School administrators say shorter semesters would give students more time to pursue their interests. Shorter semesters would also make it easier to coordinate exchanges with foreign universities, where semesters tend to last 12 to 15 weeks.
