Today I thought I'd do a Hostgator review. Why Hostgator? Well, they're a hosting company that I finally arrived at after many years of having websites. In the past, I've others like Bravenet, A2 Hosting, and even free ones like Angelfire and Google Sites. Well, the problem with free web hosting solutions is they don't give you the tools you need to actually get your website found in the search engines. It's possibly but not ideal. And NONE of my websites where getting found in Google when I was with Angelfire. To fix the problem, I needed access to the titles and descriptions of the pages, the actual files of the webpages, redirect capability to fix canonical issues and more. So with a proper hosting company like Hostgator, they finally allowed me to do so. And competing hosting companies like Bravenet and A2 Hosting were more expensive than Hostgator, for the exact same or similar service.

Like any good hosting company, Hostgator also gives you the amazing (and incidentally industry standard) control panel called Cpanel to manage your web space with. And of course, in Cpanel you can manage everything (your files, domains, redirects, email accounts, Wordpress installation and other online web builders, and much more) all completely online!

Hostgator has three basic pricing packages starting at $2.75 a month. The lowest package only allows you to only have one website because it allows only one domain name. Their next package up however (at $3.75 a month) allows unlimited domains! So that's obviously the package I use. I have multiple websites hosted with one hosting package. You just create an "addon domain" inside Cpanel whenever you build a new website and they keep getting added to your web space. And Google, Bing, Yahoo and the other search engines all view those websites as separate sites and they rank separately for separate keywords.

So that's why I like the Hostgator web hosting company. They provided the solution I needed to hosting that actually aides in getting found in search engines (which obviously needs to happen or there is no point in have a website to begin with). Unless, of course, you're a billionaire and can afford to send all your traffic to your websites with ads. Me however, I go the search route :)
