Lessons about trauma - The Children's Voices | Didi Winter | TEDxQUT

Lessons about trauma - The Children's Voices | Didi Winter | TEDxQUT There are 50,000 children living in out of home care in Australia right now. That's 50,000 unique stories. So why do we only ever hear them when they involve jail or the police. In this TEDx talk, provisional psychologist Didi Winter tells us how if we took a step back from our own perceptions we can begin to see those 50,000 not as victim but as humans. Didi Winter spent ten years working alongside some of the most ‘challenging and complex’ young people living in Child Safety residential care in Queensland. Inspired by these young people, Didi is currently completing her Master’s at QUT to practice as a Developmental and Educational Psychologist. Didi is passionate about childhood development, trauma, and understanding the human condition. Didi hopes that through her contribution to the field of childhood trauma, she can help to promote equal opportunity and belonging for the Young People in out-of-home care in our communities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
