In November a group of volunteers from Canadians Sharing joined a Community Health Outreach near the Katpadi Railway Station in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, South India. As part of International Diabetes Week that started November 14, the occasion aimed to raise awareness of diabetes including its prevention and complications. We joined a group of doctors, nurses, paramedical students and nursing students from The Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Center near Vellore for the Outreach. The purpose of the Community Health Outreach was to start a dialogue about diabetes, its causes, modifying factors and possibly the care that people with the condition need. Vellore City, Vellore District and the entire State of Tamil Nadu (and most of South India) have been engulfed by the disease and its complications. Very generally, poor dietary factors and lack of exercise have been the culprits of the outbreak, although we saw some hereditary factors involved as well. This video shows various groups of medical specialists documenting, measuring, guiding and sometimes explaining in further detail The Community Health Outreach Program conducted by The Hospital. The Narayani Hospital conducts Community Health Outreach Programs in over 400 rural villages as well as neighbourhoods in Vellore and surrounding towns.

Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally is a Canadian charity that supports humanitarian efforts in Southern India. We support a variety of existing charitable programs focused on providing better nutrition, health care, and education for people living in impoverished communities. We donate equipment for local schools and hospitals, and provide people with necessities such as food and clothing. We are a fully volunteer-based organisation, and 100% of our public donations are invested directly into the programs and causes we support.
In the Vellore District of South India we have several International Medical Programs that support improved health by providing basic nutrition, clothing and supplies, medicines, hospital equipment, special needs devices and rural medical outreach programs that reach into over 200 rural villages.
