Cathay Pacific asks all 27,000 employees to take three weeks of unpaid leave Cathay Pacific has asked 27,000 of its employees to take unpaid leave for three weeks, as it continues to deal with the coronavirus outbreak. The leave is voluntary but encouraged. CEO Augustus Tang said he is appealing to each and every one of his staff to help. He added that preserving cash is "key to protecting" the business, and described the current situation as "just as grave" as the global financial crisis of 2008. The company has put a hold on new hires, taken measures to cull non-essential spending and is asking suppliers to reduce prices
