Panic buyers have been clearing shelves of essential items at a number of supermarkets across Hong Kong, as online messages warned of imminent shortages related to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. On February 5, 2020, city government officials condemned the rumours saying the supply of essential goods has not been disrupted.
