Lauda’s Former Teammate Labels Hamilton Actions Pathetic

Following the announcement of Niki Lauda’s passing Lewis Hamilton was given permission to forego his media duties at the press conference in Monaco. However not everybody seemed pleased with Hamilton’s absence, with Lauda’s former teammate John Watson expressing his disdain over the situation.

"It's pathetic. I would like to know how Lewis can justify this. I know he was friendly with Niki, but I find it bizarre that a man of his stature would not be able to face people and tell them what Niki did for Mercedes and give him his due credit for the role he performed.”

"He should have spoken out of respect. To be so upset that he apparently cannot discuss his admiration for how Niki helped him - that's pathetic. If the roles were reversed, Niki would have been in there telling the press in his typically blunt way what a great driver and what a fine world champion Lewis is."

Mercedes To Keep Red Star

Mercedes ran a tribute livery in Monaco to honour the passing of Niki Lauda. The halo of their cars was painted red and the engine cover also included a red star. Team boss Toto Wolff has now come out saying that the team will now forever adorn the red star as a permanent tribute to the legend.

“The Halo was a one-time thing. From Canada it will not be red anymore. The red star, on the other hand, we will keep on the car as well as Niki’s signature. He did so much for this team that we want to keep a memento on the car.”

“And until we find something better to honour Niki, the star and the signature remain, both of which I find very beautiful.”

Kimi “I Don’t Like Monaco at All”

Kimi Raikkonen may have celebrated his 300th Grand Prix in Monaco but the Finn has admitted he isn’t overly fond of the circuit, especially with all the changes that have been made over the course of his career.

“It might be a nice place to watch, but honestly I don’t like Monaco at all. It is no longer the track that I drove when I was here for the first time.”

“The swimming pool corner was tighter, the first corner had a barrier, and the rest was changed as well. Before, the driver was able to make a difference here, but not anymore. Now, the fast car is always at the top.”

Magnussen Might “Go Somewhere Else”

Kevin Magnussen’s F1 career got off to a flying start by securing a podium in his debut race but has since failed to step back onto the podium. However the 26 year-old Danish driver isn’t content to stick around in F1 forever if he isn’t able to eventually fight for the title.

"In the long run, I can't motivate myself to fight for seventh place or 'best or the rest', that sort of thing. I can only do that as long as I believe in the ultimate goal of being world champion.”

"If I no longer believe in it, I'll go somewhere else where the cars are more equal, the competitors are really good racing drivers and we drive on some cool race tracks. I want some of the core values that Formula 1 had before, which is noise, fast cars and star drivers.”
