Why Are There So Many Tory Leadership Candidates?

At the last count, 13 Conservative MPs have said they will run to become the next party leader and Prime Minister. This number may increase to 18 by the end of this week, unless rules are changed tomorrow. So why are so many wanting to run for what is bound to be another poisoned chalice?
