Hyundai Kona Electric | Launch & Price | Features | All Details Hyundai is all set to launch its first electricvehicle in India on July 9, 2019. The Kona EV has been retailing in the international market for some years now. With the government's push towards cleaner mobility, Hyundai will be driving in the latest iteration of their Kona electric vehicle via a CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) route.

Auto Tech Review brings to you a preview of what can be expected on the new HyundaiKona Electric. To begin with, the new 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric will probably feature a high driving range battery setup. We estimate this to be over 300 kms. It is probable that India will get a lower spec 134 bhp motor setup; however, Hyundai also has a 201 hp motor setup that features a driving range of 415 kms. The former gets a battery pack featuring 39.2 kWh setup, while the latter gets a 64 kWh battery pack. The Kona with the 64 kWh system is said to offer a 0–100 km/h time of just 7.6 s, with the top speed of both systems rated at 167 km/h. According to reports, both powertrains can deliver 395 Nm of torque.

The new Hyundai Kona is set to also offer fast charging capability; the vehicle may offer upto 80 % charge in under an hour using 100 kWH chargers. On standard DC charging, this may extend above nine hours.

On the inside the Hyundai Kona EV will likely come with a host of features and functions. We expect the vehicle to come with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that will offer Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity. Further, a comprehensive navigation system may also be offered. In global markets the Kona EV comes with features such as forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist, high beam assist, shift by wire centre console for drive controls, Blue Link connected car system, HUD, Rain sensing wipers and wireless charging. Some of these features may come to the model offered in India; however, it is uncertain at the moment if active safety systems would be featured on the India spec model.

The Kona Electric is said to offer a good ground clearance and a commanding seating position for better road visibility. Designers have tried to maximise space inside the cabin and the Kona Electric may even offer more than 400 l of storage space. The KonaElectric has been developed with a focus on improving the driving dynamics of the vehicle over a variety of urban and multi-surface driving conditions. The front features a McPherson strut suspension system that makes use of gas-filled shock absorbers and a hollow stabiliser bar for lower weight and enhanced responsiveness. Further, the system may also get a sub-frame bushing design to enhance comfort and reduced NVH. The Kona may feature 17 inch alloys. The rear system will likely feature a multi-link suspension setup.

Hyundai may also offer drive modes (Normal, Eco Sport) on the new KonaElectric. Connected features of this vehicle may include - remote start with climate control and defroster, remote lock/unlock, vehicle diagnostics/status, stolen vehicle recovery, car finder, start or stop charging, set-up charging schedule with days of the week and time, current battery level with real-time electric and fuel range, real-time fuel range, plug status (in/out), charge status and time left until fully charged. With all this, we anticipate the Kona Electric to be offered in India roughly around the Rs 25 lakh price point.
