As soon as I entered the woods, I spotted traces of previous metal detecting activities. Uncovered holes with unwanted items next to it - something I'm allergic to...
I don't know how many times I almost broke my leg after stepping into a hole that was only covered with leaves blown by the wind. I'm sure, many animals hurt themselves that way.
The traces were so fresh, I started looking if this guy was in front of me. Unfortunately I have chosen the same path as he and had to follow the mess to a certain point.
I realized quickly, that it was pointless to detect this part of the forest, due to a thick layer of leaves and humus. The theory was proven right when I encountered another patch with a removed layer of soil. I found an old button that would otherwise be too deep for my metal detector. That shows why it's often impossible to find anything other than light items like foil.
I moved on after this experience. I didn't know where to go and was just following my intuition. When I crossed a path (with compressed soil) I stumbled upon a coin from late 1800's. This was a relief. I started following this path, but it didn't contain anything (except for a small musket ball). It's funny, because when you cross a path and find a coin after the first coil swings, the expectations are growing...
Shortly after I came across another path that went in a different direction. I followed it and found a badge (probably from the WWII). From that point on, other occasionally items started to show up. Unfortunately my main camera went out of power. Sometimes it just ignores my power bank and empties its internal battery. I recorded the rest with my macro camera.
I left the path at some point and found a coin. It was the beginning of another coin spill. It was a series of U.S. coins (Dimes, Quarters and Nickels). I came across the strangest coin spills in the past:
Often it wasn't possible to guess, how they got there, why were there so many of them and what circumstances led to the loss.
This time the mystery got solved! I found a military tent stake next to it, which means, that the coins were probably dropped by U.S. soldiers.
It was a good hunt. It started slow, but developed in the right direction.
Thanks for watching.
