The MCU almost turned out very differently, and this deleted post-credits scene proves it! Subscribe to our channel:
We’re all well aware of how the Marvel Cinematic Universe unfolded during the series of films now known as The Infinity Saga. But it all could have happened very differently had the powers-that-be decided to include a different post-credits scene at the end of 2008’s Iron Man. As it is, the famous scene features Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury meeting up with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark to discuss a possible future team-up, known as the Avenger Initiative. As it is, the scene serves as a short and sweet teaser for the plans that Marvel Studios had in store for its fans. But even the creative team behind the MCU likely didn’t know how big this series of films would become.
As revealed at a recent event by studio head Kevin Feige, this scene was originally supposed to be quite different. Once upon a time, a deleted version of the Iron Man post-credits scene was a bit longer and included references to a wall-crawling hero bitten by a spider and a bunch of mutants secretly living among the citizens. Marvel Studios must’ve been feeling pretty confident about its abilities to snag Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and the Patrick Stewart-led X-Men from 20th Century Fox. They later appear to have had second thoughts and the scene was tweaked for the finished movie. Still, we can’t help but wonder what might have been, had a more adult Spider-Man - played by Tobey Maguire - joined up with the MCU superheroes much earlier than the Tom Holland team-up that we ultimately received.
