Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield[a] are upcoming role-playing video games developed by Game Freak and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. They are the first installments in the eighth generation of the Pokémon video game series and the second in the series to be released on a home game console, after Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. Teased in 2017 during E3 and announced in February 2019, Pokémon Sword and Shield are set for worldwide release on November 15, 2019.

Sword and Shield's development began immediately after Sun and Moon's development was completed in 2016. As most other main series Pokémon titles, it stars the main character's journey in the Galar region, based on the United Kingdom, to dethrone the Champion Leon and defeat Team Yell, a group of fans obsessed over Marnie, one of the game's rivals along with Hop and Bede. Sword and Shield introduce new features such as Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing, functions that increase size and change forms for certain Pokémon, a Wild area which is a large open world with free camera movement, and raids with co-op. It also reintroduces previous features from Sun and Moon and Let's Go such as regional variants and free-roaming Pokémon.
